Overview of Cognos Business Intelligence (BI)

The Cognos Business Intelligence (BI) toolset provides for reporting (from simple ad-hoc queries to advanced multi-page layout reports) and data analytics. (missing or bad snippet) provides the "metadata models" for this capability. Metadata is used to describe the context, content, and structure of the database information. The model is the linking of database tables. The model provides more control over how the data is presented to Cognos BI users.

Cognos BI is a web-based and Windows ®-based user interface that allows for creating or viewing reports and graphs. Through the use of the BI module, you can create sophisticated, interactive dashboards utilizing created content. The following are a few of the reporting and analytic features that are available:

• Query and reporting

• You can create, edit, and distribute a wide range of professional reports using the robust report design and authoring tool.
• You can create your own ad-hoc queries in order to quickly design, create, and save reports to meet more immediate or one-time needs.
• You can add colors, text, images, calculations, filters, and graphs and even create drill through reports.

• Import report images into Microsoft Office and easily refresh the BI content
• Access and interact with report output offline or in a disconnected mode
• Track performance against key performance indicators
